The Russian quest for relevancy in the 21st Century

Just a few quick thoughts. It really seems to me that the Russians as a people and as a nation have really lost their identity. They really don’t know what they want to be. They tried some democracy, now they are trying some totalitarianism again with Putin as the shadow president.

It seems to me that Russia hasn’t been able to shake it’s image of an also ran super power that is full of nothing but Vodka swilling people that wear cool hats.

Space: Russian Astronaut Uses ISS to Take Photos of Ossetia Invasion while NASA Looks to the Other Side

Is this basically one step from having a guy with a telescope in an observation balloon? You would think the ‘mighty’ russians could afford some sort of Satellite for this kind of thing…
