Will Facebook kill the two-party system?

A great article on Ars about how the advent of social networking might break the classic two-party political system in the US.  I don’t think I would go so far as to say it will kill the system, but he makes some EXCELLENT points that are worth the read.

Something broiling beneath the surface…

So by now the world knows that Obama won the election. What is interesting in this election are some of the ballot initiatives that you just aren’t hearing about.

In 3 states – Arkansas , Florida and what looks like California you have people voting to ban same-sex marriage. Now this is interesting because Obama is a hard left liberal and you would think these initiatives would have been defeated because of his ground swell…this doesn’t look to be the case.

What this tells me is there is still a majority of people in these states that are ‘center-right’ and while the Liberals won the actual election it appears the war of ideas is still very much open for debate.

I saw the funniest thing on twitter today…

So one of the people I am following dropped this little gem into my twitter feed earlier

This is a global economy and we deserve a vote

Now – for some background. This unnamed person is from the UK and from what I have seen just doesn’t seem all that politically savvy. What I find quite amusing is this isn’t the first person I have seen this comment from. It seems a great many people all want to vote in our election.

My first thought is these people just have democracy envy. After thinking a little bit more about this I had a few other thoughts. The world has always been a global economy. The idea of ‘global trade’ isn’t exactly a new one. It just happens a bit faster these days. If you follow my friend from the UK’s thinking though the French people should have had a say whom became King of England or some such.

If you want to participate in American politics – you are welcome to immigrate and become a citizen. Until then – you can just watch the fun from the sidelines

Go Vote!

Stop reading the internets and go vote. The most important thing you can do is exercise your right to vote…so go!

I <3 Sarah Palin

This is exactly the take the bull by the horns kind of woman that deserves the chance to be vice president and perhaps president some day. She speaks her mind, actually stands behind her beliefs and doesn’t hide or try to mitigate what she is. Gov. Palin and her family are a terrific snapshot of the American family – warts and all. The ‘warts’ just make her seem more like someone you might meet at the dry cleaners or at the bar.

As Rush has said“Palin = Guns, Babies, Jesus.”

The Russian quest for relevancy in the 21st Century

Just a few quick thoughts. It really seems to me that the Russians as a people and as a nation have really lost their identity. They really don’t know what they want to be. They tried some democracy, now they are trying some totalitarianism again with Putin as the shadow president.

It seems to me that Russia hasn’t been able to shake it’s image of an also ran super power that is full of nothing but Vodka swilling people that wear cool hats.
